Privacy policy
Last updated 23 August 2026. Campus Scenes is run by Next Tech Lab. This page describes every category of data the app collects, what it is used for, who processes it, and how to get rid of it.
Your posts carry a randomly generated handle, never your name. Your email address is used to prove you belong to a university and is never shown to another student. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there is no advertising or tracking SDK in the app.
Your email address. Collected when you create an account, and used for one thing: proving you are a student at the campus you are joining, and letting you sign in or reset your password. Other students never see it.
Your handle. Generated for you from a word list. It is the only identity other students see, and it is the key your posts, reactions, poll votes and block list are stored against.
Gender. Asked once at sign-up, including a "prefer not to say" option. It is stored on your profile, never displayed beside a post, and used only if you opt into roommate matching preferences.
What you post. Text, photos, polls, housing listings, lost and found items, and messages you send. Photos are uploaded to storage and are visible to verified students at your campus.
Housing details you choose to enter. Budget, move-in month, area, and the contact you type when you enquire about a room. A contact is only ever shown to the person you sent it to, after they choose to share theirs back.
Notification token. If you allow notifications, a device token so we can send them. It is not linked to advertising.
No location. No contacts. No advertising identifiers. No analytics or tracking SDKs. No browsing history from outside the app. We do not build a profile of you for advertising, and we do not sell or rent anything to anyone.
We use a small number of processors, and only for the purposes below. They are bound by their own terms and act on our instructions.
Posts and listings are checked automatically before publication for threats and content sexualising minors. Uploaded images are checked by Google Cloud Vision. When another student reports something, a campus moderator can read the reported content in order to decide on it, and we keep a record of what was removed and why. Enough reports remove content automatically.
Your account and profile are kept until you delete them. Content you posted is kept until you delete it or it is removed by moderation. Moderation records are kept for up to 12 months so repeated abuse can be recognised. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis and are fully cycled within 30 days.
Open the app and go to You → Delete account. It is immediate and permanent: your account, your email address and your handle are deleted, and your handle returns to the pool. Full instructions, including what is kept and for how long, are on the account deletion page.
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@campusscenes.com. We answer within 30 days. If you are in the UK, EU, or a jurisdiction with comparable rules, those rights are yours by law and this is how you exercise them.
Campus Scenes is for university students aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, email safety@campusscenes.com and we will remove it.
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Data at rest is encrypted by Google Cloud. Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service.
If this policy changes materially, the app says so before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
